This page explains what happens to information when you read a thread, sign up, or send us a message. It applies to lifeslittlehelper.com and to the forum boards, regional sections and classifieds corner that sit on it. Last updated: 12 March 2025.
When you register or post, we store the name or display name you choose, your email address, an optional phone number, your region board selection, and the text of your questions, replies and classifieds listings. Contact form submissions include your name, email, phone if you add it, and the message body. We also record basic technical data: browser type, device type, approximate location from your IP address, pages viewed and timestamps.
We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your board preferences and measure which threads get read. Analytics events are aggregated: page views, search terms used on the forum, and which categories draw traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; signing in and posting will not work properly without the session cookie.
Account data keeps your threads and replies attached to you. Email is used for sign-in links, reply notifications you opt into, and moderation messages. Technical and analytics data helps us spot broken pages, spam registrations and threads that need a moderator's attention. We do not sell member data, and we do not use your posts to build advertising profiles.
Limited data reaches service providers who run parts of the site: our hosting provider, the email delivery service that sends notifications, the analytics tool, and the form handler that routes contact messages. They process data on our instructions. We may disclose information if a valid South African legal request requires it, or to investigate abuse, fraud or a security incident.
Account records stay while your account is open. Forum posts usually remain after you close an account, because removing them would break threads other members rely on; we can anonymise the author on request. Contact form messages are kept for up to 24 months. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form.
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, request corrections, request deletion, or ask us to transfer it in a portable format. You can withdraw consent for notifications at any time from your account settings, and opt out of analytics cookies in your browser. Members in the EU or California have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA, including the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Send access, correction or deletion requests to the address below and we will respond within a reasonable period. Include the email address linked to your account so we can verify the request.
